Meet 0: Freight Frenzy

The First game of the season

FREIGHT FRENZY℠ Presented by Raytheon Technologies is the 2021-2022 FIRST Tech Challenge game. This game has everything. There are things that spin, things that wobble, things to pick up, things to put down, and best of all, a Duck.

Walkthrough of our Meet 0

Upon arriving at Meet 0, which was held in our school’s gym, we were able to assess the scene.

There were lots of teams that were lacking differential parts of their robots: autonomous, arm expansions, carousel rotational mechanisms, and spirit. Though many were messing major parts of their robots by meet 0, select teams had completed sections of their robots.

On Meet 0 day, we were scheduled to 5 different matches with 4 different team alliances. The remaining team was with Robonauts. Throughout practices we were able to learn about each other’s robots and collaborated according to our strengths and weaknesses, being able to strategize how to make the most of the 2 min 30 sec time frame of the competition.

Our Take-Aways

• Always be able to accommodate at least 2 inches difference of the carousel mechanism. There were some teams who’s wheel to turn the carousel did not reach since they are all set up differently

• Learn the phases of the game by heart, know what you can and can't do during autonomous and drive

• Learn about the boundaries to prevent points from being taken off: learning the penalties

• There are alliances that will not cooperate with you so, you must learn to take one for the team and use your strengths in the areas you are best at especially in these sorts of time sensitive games

• End Game! Learning how to do the most during this time and how to improve the speed of carousel rotational mechanism

• Incorporating gears instead of pulley systems

• Beware of Borrow-Posting! Always be 3 steps ahead

• In qualification game 13, Redsnow was allied with Robonauts. Fate! In the 2 minute 30 second match, we were able to get 103 points (93 after penalties) making our match the highest scoring of meet 0

• Our other team Robonauts held Rank 4!
